Nillumbik announces contracter for Diamond Creek Play Space

Nillumbik Shire Council has awarded the contract for the design and construction of the Diamond Creek Regional Playspace.

At last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting, Councillors resolved to appoint Ace Landscape Services to design and construct the new playspace.

Ace will now develop a draft design for the playspace based on the ideas and feedback already provided by the community.

The draft design is expected to be ready for further community consultation in October/November. Construction of the playspace is scheduled to commence next autumn.

The new nature-themed playspace will be for all ages and all abilities with play areas for younger and older children. It will complement the natural bushland environment of the Diamond Creek Reserve.

The playspace is part of the $2.5 million project funding received from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

The project will also include car parking, picnic facilities, public toilets, as well as a refurbished W-class tram that will operate as a community café.

Members of the Diamond Creek Rotary Tram Project have been busy transforming the historic Melbourne tram ready for installation on the site.

Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan said awarding the contract was an exciting step in making all the community’s ideas for the playspace a reality.

“This playground will be a fantastic facility for Nillumbik families and an asset for the whole the Diamond Creek community, encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy this great Shire we live in,” Cr Egan said.
