Alexandra State Emergency Service (SES) Controller and award-winning amateur radio operator, Peter Weeks OAM, VK3YZP, will celebrate 50 years of service to the SES tomorrow.
Peter Weeks OAM, was there 50 years ago when the SES began. He will attend the Golden Jubilee SES event tomorrow at Southbank.
Peter Weeks OAM, was also awarded the National Emergency Medal following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires for service in ‘multiple capacities’.
He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2025.
Peter Weeks OAM maintains amateur radio repeaters, such as VK3RAG in Alexandra and other amateur radio repeaters and stations for emergency communications.
He’s a highly respected volunteer in the SES, the local community, and the amateur ‘ham’ radio community.
He was a founding member of UGFM, and with his engineering background helped establish the primary and four original – and others since, such as Kinglake Ranges – retransmission sites with emergency power systems and is currently the President of Upper Goulburn Murray Radio (UGFM).
Peter Weeks OAM is also a member of the Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network (WICEN), the amateur radio group specially trained in emergency communications on all emergency radio communications networks and assist.
