At its meeting on 28 August Murrindindi Shire voted in favor of seven local community groups receiving project funding or a permit-fee reduction as part of Murrindindi Shire Council’s Grants and Contributions Program.
Council endorsed funding applications from Alexandra Community Christmas Tree Festival Inc, Foggy Mountain Inc, Sing and Grow Australia, Upper Goulburn Landcare Network and Alexandra Bowling Club.
Council also supported two applications for fee reductions in this round reducing by half the Planning Permit fee for the Alexandra Scouts and did the same for Planning and Building permits for the Alexandra Indoor Swimming Pool.
Mayor Sandice McAulay said Council’s Grants and Contributions Program provides the opportunity for community groups, not-for-profit organisations and businesses to seek funding to support a range of activities and initiatives that have a wider community benefit. We believe the projects we have supported in this round will certainly do that!
“The Alexandra Community Christmas Tree Festival Inc was granted $4000 to purchase outdoor garlands and lighting to decorate the Rotunda in Grant Street, Alexandra come Christmas time. The Christmas Tree Festival is a wonderful source of ‘cheer’ for locals as well as a great tourism attraction,” Cr McAulay said.
“Foggy Mountain Inc. received $5000 toward its ‘Ten Years On – Foggy Mountain Primary School Recording Project’. The Project sees children from primary schools in the Kinglake Ranges writing and recording songs for a CD. Council was really impressed by how much support the organisers have sourced from other partners to run this Project. This demonstrates a real commitment to a partnership approach to achieving community goals.
“Sing and Grow Australia was supported with $480 to help cover the costs of travel in delivering an eight week Music Therapy Program in Eildon to support strong connections between young children and their care-givers.
“Queensland Fruit Fly continues to be a concern in Murrindindi Shire, so we were pleased to provide $3000 to the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network to help its ‘Say Goodbye to Queensland Fruit Fly’ Project. The Project will include community information sessions and monitoring of fruit fly populations across the region. Council recommended the group seek further sponsorship for this initiative through major fruit growers and wine producers. Council’s Environment Officer will be supporting this Project too.
“Last but not least, Council also voted to continue its support of the Alexandra Bowling Club with $500 sponsorship to help support the Club’s activities,” Cr McAulay said.
“It was great to see yet another lot of fantastic projects in this round of the Grants and Contributions program. I look forward to seeing the impact these initiatives will have on broader community wellbeing, visitation to the area and economic development in Murrindindi Shire.
