Whittlesea City supports Walk To School with $500 prize

Families in the City of Whittlesea are encouraged to leave the car at home and walk, ride or scoot to school in October to help their schools win cash and prizes.

Walk to School encourages families to get active on the trip to and from school to help kids build healthy habits for life.

Mayor Lawrie Cox said the VicHealth program was free, easy and fun for kids.

“Our kids are healthier and happier when they’re active every day, and walking to school is a great way to get their activity in,” Cr Cox said.

“Walk to School also has the added benefit of easing congestion during peak pick up and drop off times.

“Last year 23 schools participated in Walk to School in the City of Whittlesea, we encourage more primary schools to get involved this year to make Walk to School bigger and better.”

-Mayor Lawrie Cox

“The local school with the highest pro-rata participation will receive a $500 prize from Council “

Walk to School runs from 7 October through to 1 November.

Schools and parents can register online at walktoschool.vic.gov.au
