Only Murdoch’s Leader Newspaper Group beat Kinglake Ranges News

Kinglake Ranges News began as a university project then became a work in progress. It still is. Through hard work and many late nights we became – and now are – a leading news site, ranked as the #45,703 website of all Australian websites.

Our aim was to be competitive online with other media on a level beyond just local media, which is why we chose the motto “From The Mountains To Melbourne” when we launched on 14 June 2017.

We are now the most succesful online news site – not just in Murrindindi – but throughout the north eastern suburbs and north east Victoria.

According to WordPress statistics, over 24,000 people read Kinglake Ranges News directly last August. This does not include readers via Google News.

This didn’t just happened. We took everything we’d learnt in the past, what we are learning – and still are – at University plus coding and amateur radio skills to build Kinglake Ranges News. There are many 12 hour (or more) days monitoring the media, contacting people, coding and more that go into delivering news to the public.

We invested in computers, audio equipment, laptops, the latest digital SLR and accessories, a full-blown MOJO kit, a (outdated – but will do) HD broadcast camera and more.

All that remains is converting “Gordon” (a 1994 Mitsubishi Magna wagon) into a news van. Work is in progress, but there is much cabling and wiring to do.

It should also be noted that the Murdoch-owned [News Ltd] Leader Newspaper group statistics include views for all Leader Newspapers in Victoria.

A massive thank you is owed by Kinglake Ranges News to journalists and La Trobe University’s Dr Nasya Bahfen and Peter Gregory for their support and guidance. Kinglake Ranges News would not exist without their valuable support.

The Alexandra Standard, Yea Chronicle, Mountain Monthly and other media are no longer included in statistics – as we used to – as Google Anayltics, Alexa and Similar Web no longer record data for web sites with less than 5,000 regular viewers a month.

The all new Kinglake Ranges News site launches 1 January 2020 at 12.01am. Test transmissions for radio, online and tv will commence later this year.

All data in this report is provided independent of Kinglake Ranges News and Geelan Media by third-parties; Alexa, Google Anayltics and SimilarWeb. No data has been altered or manipulated. Confirm by clicking this link.

COMMENT:
Lost some battles. Won the war. Now competiting with respectable, hard-working genuine media outlets in the digital space.

Google do pay journalists.
