$240k for Eltham Rugby & Tennis Club upgrades

The Eltham Rugby Union Club and Eltham Tennis Club are the latest to benefit from a share of the Andrews Labor Government’s Community Support Fund thanks to $240,000 in grants.

Minister for Sport John Eren last Thursday (October 18) joined Member for Eltham Vicki Ward to announce $60,000 for an upgrade to Eltham Rugby Union Club’s spectator terrace as well as $180,000 towards a tennis court resurface complete with new lighting at the Eltham Tennis Club.

Victorian sports clubs are the lifeblood of our towns and suburbs and the Labor Government is delivering the modern, accessible, and safe facilities they deserve.

“Terracing at the Eltham Rugby Club has been needed for some time, as has a replacement court surface and lights at Eltham Tennis Club. It’s great to be able to deliver these projects to these wonderful clubs,” Ward said.

The upgrade of the terrace at Eltham Rugby Union Club will give the club a better space to host more fans and boost local support.

The upgraded courts at the Eltham Tennis Club will provide a safer, competition-ready court surface capable of hosting more development programs and big tennis events day and night.

The boost is part of the Labor Government’s commitment to promoting sports and active recreation and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and enjoy the sports they love.

Across Victoria we’ve invested more than $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities to get more people moving and help bring communities together.

It’s backed by almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to ensure sport and active recreation continue to be accessible to everyone regardless of gender or location.

Mr Eren and Ms Ward acknowledged Nillumbik Shire Council for its commitment to the projects.
