CANBERRA, ACT. — Yesterday afternoon, Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie launched an online petition that conflates firearms with those of the Muslim faith.

Some online commenters have called it “going full Pauline Hanson” and similar comments, many of which aren’t suitable for publication.

Senator McKenzie also stated, appearing on Sky News from Wodonga: “As a zionist myself …”

“The Albanese Labor Government thinks the Bondi Terror Attack was caused by guns.

“It wasn’t the gun that pulled the trigger; it was Islamic Extremism, which has festered for too long in our suburbs.
 
Next week, legislation will be debated in the Australian Parliament which unfairly targets law-abiding firearm owners (like myself) alongside Islamic hate preachers.
 
“It is critical that you sign our petition to protect the rights of law-abiding firearm holders, like myself, from the legislation being debated early next week,” Senator McKenzie’s post states.
