YARRAMBAT, VIC. — Northern Victoria MLC Wendy Lovell has called for better lighting on Yan Yean Rd to improve safety during road construction works.

During construction work for stage 2 of the Yan Yean Road upgrade, lanes are being closed and realigned. With lane lines and traffic arrangements changing several times already, and the road now considerably narrowed, motorists report that it has become hard to see exactly where drivers should be travelling in the dark.

The lack of lighting along the stretch of road near Yarrambat Golf Club, between Ironbark Road and Jorgensen Avenue, has made driving at night increasingly difficult with new lane alignments and temporary line markings.

“Safety on our roads must be a priority at all times, so I have called on the government to install temporary lighting along Yan Yean Road to improve safety while stage 2 road works continue,” Ms Lovell said.

Liberal candidate for Yan Yean Amanda Dow has met with residents and heard they are concerned about safety due to the lack of lighting over the reconfigured road lanes, following several recent accidents.

Ms Dow shared these reports with Ms Lovell, who raised the matter in parliament on behalf of Ms Dow and local road users, and called on the Minister for Roads and Road Safety to improve safety on Yan Yean Road during stage two works by installing more lighting.
