AFL Outer East kicked off Saturday with win for Berwick in Premier Division

The AFL Outer East era, following the merger of AFL Yarra Ranges and SEFNL, began with a bang as two South East rivals renewed their acquaintances on Saturday afternoon in front a 1000 strong crowd at Edwin Flack Reserve.

Narre Warren came away from the day with more wins under their belt, after they took out the Under 18’s by 49 points, proving too strong for the young Wickers, with the final scores finishing 14.7.(91) to 6.6.(42).

This trend continued in the reserves, where despite a strong final term from the hosts – Narre Warren ran out 27 points victors, 10.4(64) to 5.7.(37)

After Berwick Football President Glenn Gambetta unfurled the 2018 SEFNL Flag, the realness of the season hit home as both sides struggled to get to grips with the tempo.

A five goal to three second term from the home side saw them lead by four points at the main break, and they extended that lead out to 13 points at the last change thanks to two goals from forward Harrison Money.

However, goals from Mitchell Cox and Michael Collins saw the Magpies draw the game level, before Money kicked two goals in a minute to seal a six-point victory for the Wickers.
