YARRA RANGES, VIC. — Community members are being encouraged to celebrate great young people, with nominations now open for Yarra Ranges Council’s Celebrating YOUth Awards.
The awards, which will be presented at an event in November, recognise the efforts of young people under several categories:
- Resilience and Perseverance;
- Young Entrepreneur;
- Arts, Music and Culture;
- School or Community Improvement; and
- Passionate Advocate.
Nominations are now open and will close at 11:59pm on Saturday, October 31.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Richard Higgins, said the awards were a great chance to acknowledge and thank young people who go the extra mile.
“We have an incredible community here in the Yarra Ranges, including wonderful, passionate and engaged young people committed to making a difference,” Cr Higgins said.
“So many young people are honing their skills in arts and music, breaking into the market with small business ideas, improving the community around them, advocating for positive change, and showing resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
“These awards are a chance to let them know that we think what they are doing is incredible, to encourage them to keep going, and to say thank you on behalf of the community.
“You can nominate an individual or a group, and the nominee can be a friend, family member or just someone in the community whose work you admire.
“There are so many amazing young people in the community who deserve recognition, so I hope everyone reading this takes some time to nominate someone great.”
To be eligible for an award, a nominee must be aged between 12 and 25 years old and either live, work, study or volunteer in the Yarra Ranges.
Once nominations close, a panel of community members will select a winner and runner-up for each category.
The Celebrating YOUth Awards Night will be held on Thursday, November 19 and is supported by the Victorian Government through the Engage! Program.
