ATO bushfire class action dispute to be heard Nov. 13

EXCLUSIVE

The Federal Court today scheduled a taxation dispute between Black Saturday class action participants, represented by law firm Maurice Blackburn, and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to be heard on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.

The hearing will address the ATO’s taxation treatment of interest earned on principle settlement money before being paid out to Black Saturday bushfire victims.

“The Scheme Administrator was working closely with our tax lawyers and the ATO to resolve the issue …  litigation might be necessary,” Watson said.

The November hearing uses one tax year in the Murrindindi Bushfire Class Action case.
