OCEAN GROVE, VIC. — Geelong Divisional Response Unit detectives charged a man after following the alleged offender in Ocean Grove on Sunday.
Officers were called to reports of an unknown man in the shed of a property on Arkins St in Point Lonsdale just before 9.30am.
The man was approached by the property owner and allegedly fled in a white Mitsubishi Triton.
There were no injuries.
The Air Wing followed the stolen Mitsubishi as it drove through the streets of Ocean Grove, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 135km/h.
It was dumped near a playground at the intersection of Omega Drive and Empress Boulevard. Ocean Grove, where officers moved in, arresting the 22-year-old driver.
He was subsequently charged with:
• burglary;
• theft of a motor vehicle;
• theft from motor vehicle;
• fail to stop on police direction;
• driving in a manner dangerous;
• two counts of reckless conduct endangering serious injury; and
• driving whilst disqualified.
He appeared before the Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The Mitsubishi was allegedly stolen on Saturday night in the Geelong area.
