Following council’s commitment of $250,000 and state government pledging $750,000, the federal government announced Sunday $750,000 funding for the Kinglake Streetscape Renewal Project.
The announcement follows federal opposition leader Bill Shorten announcing $750,000 in funding last November.
Murrindindi Shire Deputy Mayor, and Kinglake resident, Cr Leigh Dunscombe has been advocating for the sealing of Aitken Crescent, Kinglake and improving the local streetscape since being elected to council.
Cr Dunscombe said we have all worked hard to rebuild the homes, businesses, communities and lives that were impacted by the 2009 Bushfires and advocated for this project, developed by Murrindindi Shire.
“We have talked about what Kinglake needs to thrive and prosper and how those needs could best be met. Now is the time to focus on renewing the streetscape for the future of the Kinglake Ranges,” Cr Dunscombe said.
“Following Council’s commitment of a quarter of a million dollars to the Kinglake Streetscape Renewal Project late last year, the Victorian Government also announced a sensational three quarters of a million-dollar contribution to the project.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the Federal Government’s announcement over the weekend that it too will contribute $750,000 to the Kinglake Streetscape Renewal Project.
“With the support of State and Federal Governments, we can take another great leap forward toward Kinglake’s bright future. We will build a place that promotes not only a sense of connectedness, but inspires a feeling of pride.
“As well as being a hub for the community, we believe the Kinglake Streetscape Renewal Project will provide a boost to local businesses, help attract more tourists and ensure a prosperous future for the people of the Kinglake Ranges.
“We will be using the community’s ideas and feedback from previous consultations as our starting point and look forward to coming together again to refine the plans for the future of the streetscape. Stay tuned for more details on these upcoming consultation sessions,” Cr Dunscombe added.
