Festival of the Falls

Kinglake.

Kinglake’s inaugural Festival of the Falls opened with a health and vitality experience at Masons Falls picnic area in the Kinglake National Park. This was followed by a well-attended community wellbeing dinner held at Lawsons Restaurant (Kinglake Pub) on Friday evening.

Following Saturday’s AFL 9’s community challenge at the Kinglake Memorial oval the ‘meet the players’ with AFLW Collingwood players Emma King, Ruby Schleicher and Essendon’s David Zaharakis was moved to the Kinglake Pub with approximately 38 people attending the community challenge. Saturday concluded with the twenty five people watching the Fire Cats perform at the hotel.

Sunday began with a larger than usual crowd attending Bollygum Market and whilst storms threatened the morning, they never came. Also on Sunday morning was a local artists’ exhibition and ‘laughter yoga’ at the Kinglake Ranges Neighbourhood House. Sunday evening was completed with 46 people watching a gospel performance from Carter and Carter at St Peters Anglican Church, Kinglake Central.

Events struggled to attract large crowds with some locals not even realising there was a festival. “There’s a festival on?” Jodie Gentsch said.

It should be noted that this is the inaugural festival which was held over a long weekend, when many people go on holidays with plenty of scope for improvement next year.
