VICTORIA. — The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will commence at 1am next Monday, November 9, 2026, for several Western region municipalities.
- Hindmarsh Shire Council
- Yarriambiack Shire Council
- Horsham Rural City Council
- West Wimmera Shire Council
Residents in these areas are encouraged to use the remaining time before the FDP begins to prepare their properties and complete any planned private burn-offs while conditions and regulations allow.
This includes cleaning up dry grass, leaves, and other flammable materials, as well as completing safe private burn-offs while they are still permitted.
CFA District 17 Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Hayes said there is more fuel available than is typically seen at this time of year.
“A favourable growing season has produced significant crop and grass fuel loads across western Victoria, leaving more vegetation on the landscape,” Malcolm said.
“While conditions remain relatively moist in many areas, warmer temperatures are quickly during out crops, grasslands and forested areas.
“With further warm weather forecast, conditions could change quickly over the coming weeks, increasing fire risk as fuels become more readily available to burn.
“Now is the time to clean up around your property, complete any planned burn-offs safely and make sure your bushfire plan is up to date.”
For more information on preparing your property and understanding local fire restrictions, visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au.
Those conducting burn-offs must notify authorities online at the Fire Permits Victoria website (www.firepermits.vic.gov.au), or by calling 1800 668 511.
By registering your burn-off online, you allow emergency call takers to allocate more of their time to taking calls from people who need emergency assistance immediately.
No burning off is permitted during the FDP without a Permit to Burn, which can be applied for through the Fire Permits Victoria website.
