Flintoff St closed following chlorine leak

Earlier this morning the MFB responded to an alarm at the WaterMarc Aquatic Centre in Flintoff St, Greensborough.

Upon arrival firefighters found a small chlorine leak in the plant room that could not be stopped. As a safety measure Flintoff St was closed and extra appliances responded.

Police cordoned off the aquatic centre whilst 40 firefighters contained the leak – and odour – to the plant room.

Grimshaw Street has been closed both directions at Flintoff Street due to a gas leak. Police are on site directing traffic. Use Main Street and Para Road as an alternative route.

Three staff had evacuated before the fire brigade arrived and the building and surrounding area were deemed safe at 8.15am.

Five pumpers, two HAZMAT vehicles and an ambulance remain at the scene.
