MT BUFFALO, VIC. — The Ovens Valley Group held its annual group exercise this year at the historic Mt Buffalo Chalet.

About 40 CFA members and a range of vehicles from all brigades in the Ovens Valley Group participated. Brigades at the training exercise were Gapsted, Myrtleford, Buffalo River, Mudgegonga, Rosewhite, Ovens-Eurobin, Porepunkah, Bright, Harrietville and Mt Hotham-Dinner Plain.

Representatives from Parks Victoria and Belgravia Outdoor Education were also present.

The exercise included turnouts from stations to the chalet to determine response times if an incident were to occur. This was followed by a search and rescue exercise where crews carried out an orienteering exercise throughout the chalet building, looking for specific items, answering questions and locating CFA trauma teddies.

The training concluded with a risk inspection and walk-through of the facility led by Parks Victoria, looking at high-risk areas, exposures and the newly upgraded fire suppression system.
