Kinglake RAC building in community hands

Kinglake.

Murrindindi Shire have formed the view that the Kinglake Ranges Rebuilding Advisory Centre, known as the ‘RAC’ building should be under the control of the community as initially intended with council no longer seeking long-term commercial leases.

Workspace Australia advised council they won’t renew their lease and will vacate the premises on June 30.

Current tenants including Parks Victoria will be offered a 12 month lease extension from July 1 with the terms of renewed leases “ensuring operating and maintenance costs…are the responsibility of, or covered by the tenants.”

Murrindindi Shire will be working closely with Parks Victoria to find a more appropriate location for their Kinglake Ranges operations.

Murrindindi will be investigating viable options for the community-based management and use of the RAC building with a further report “to be presented for council’s consideration.”

Council will be working closely with the local community and community groups to ascertain and consider potential community uses whilst identifying and developing an appropriate community-based management model.
