SANDHURST, VIC. — Two police officers were injured and a police vehicle was rammed numerous times in Sandhurst on Thursday morning.
The officers were conducting patrols when they observed two males running from a residence on Ethereal Way about 1am.
The pair were seen getting into a white Ford Ranger, and police followed the vehicle into Toporoa Court.
The Ranger then parked in a residential driveway as police parked behind them.
The officers exited their vehicle and approached the driver.
The Ford began driving forward and reversing, ramming the police car and the garage numerous times, causing significant damage to both.
The passenger inside the Ford fled on foot before the driver sped off, causing one officer to fall onto the road and the other had to take swift evasive action to move out of the way.
The Ford Ranger sped off towards Wodalla Circuit.
The offending males are described as being Caucasian, in their late teens to early 20s and wearing dark clothing.
Investigators have confirmed that the duo committed an aggravated burglary at a premises on Ethereal Way when they were first seen by officers.
The Ford Ranger was displaying registration plates that were stolen from a Bentleigh East address between 8pm on Tuesday, October 28 and 6.30am on Wednesday, October 29.
A senior constable from Southern Metro Region was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and an acting sergeant from Southern Metro Region suffered minor injuries.
The Ranger sustained significant damage to the front and rear of the vehicle.
The police car sustained significant damage to both the front and driver’s side.
No arrests have been made. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
