ELPHINSTONE, VIC. — A Castlemaine police officer detected a high-range drink driver in Elphinstone on Saturday night.

Officers received several reports of a white ute driving erratically along the Calder Highway around 7pm.

Officers were quickly on the case and intercepted a ute in Elphinstone, speaking to the driver, a 37-year-old man from Sunbury.

He underwent a preliminary breath test and returned to the station for an evidentiary breath test, where he returned an alleged reading of 0.253 per cent BAC.

His licence was immediately suspended and his car impounded for 30 days with $1874 in costs.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving-related offences.
