Murdoch journalists who are Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) union members are reporting that many staff in Murdoch’s newsrooms still haven’t been paid in the most recent pay cycle.
According to Murdoch journalists, “monthly wages being more than 3 days late due to mismanagement from News Corp, staff are facing dishonour fees from their banks.”
The MEAA has written to management and received assurances that pay has now been processed, and anyone experiencing hardship as a result of the late pay can reach out to HR for support.
According to the MEAA, this is the latest incident in an ongoing trend of Murdoch’s News Corporation failing to pay its workforce the correct amount on time.
Last year, the MEAA notified News Corp of a suspected breach of the Enterprise Agreement and inspected documents to confirm that dozens of staff are owed thousands of dollars in backpay for 6th shifts worked.
Despite conducting an audit, News Corporation failed to pay staff what they are owed, according to an MEAA spokesperson.
“News Corporation has also tried to blame the union for potential roster changes to avoid responsibility for overworking its staff. We won’t stop until we have recovered backpay for every member who has been ripped off,” the MEAA spokesperson said.
