MELBOURNE, VIC. — Sunshine West man, 27-year-old Jerry Sowood, was yesterday charged with several offences including intentionally causing injury and conduct endangering life.

The Sunshine West man fronted the Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link yesterday afternoon, appearing to describe details of the incident when the magistrate began asking about health issues that might affect his time in custody.

“There’s no need to hide it,” he said.

“At least they’re both still breathing, so I kept my humanity intact.”

He appeared to refuse an offer of a nurse visit and, when asked if he took any regular medications, said: “I was in a mental state of mind.”

The court heard it was the man’s first time in custody.

A lawyer told the court he was not given bail instructions when he visited Mr Sowood.

No application was made.

Mr Sowood will return to court in November.
