KEILOR DOWNS, VIC. — A 62-year-old Caroline Springs man has been charged after allegedly using his phone to film “several people”, including children, through the gap of a public pool toilet cubicle.

The number of potential victims allegedly filmed by a man at a Melbourne pool may not be known for several months.

Police have accused a 62-year-old man of filming “several people”, including children, in a change room at the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre at Keilor Downs on Sunday.

He reportedly filmed his alleged victims with a phone through the gap of a cubicle before tossing the device in a bin.

Staff at the Taylors Rd facility then retrieved the phone and called police.

The Caroline Springs man has since been charged with one count each of producing child abuse material and producing an intimate image.

He was bailed to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on March 23, 2027.

But the number of potential alleged victims may not be known for some time.

Detectives now face the grim and painstaking task of reviewing any relevant footage on the man’s device and contacting the affected families.

They said that would not be a quick process.

“Police are working with the aquatic centre and are in the process of contacting those potentially impacted by the alleged offending,” the force said in a statement.

“Police expect to identify further alleged victims; however, working through this process is expected to take some time.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, further updates will be provided when appropriate.

“We absolutely understand how concerning this is for the community, and the community should be rest assured police are conducting a full and thorough investigation.”

Brimbank City Council Deputy Mayor Maria Kerr said the “positive news” was that the man had been charged.

“Community safety remains a priority, and I will continue to keep residents informed as further information becomes available,” she said.

“As the matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment further on the details of the allegations.”

Brimbank Council took immediate action, terminating the membership of the individual charged and banning him from all council facilities.
