Police have charged a man after several people were injured in Moonee Ponds this afternoon.
Officers were called to Puckle Street about 1.15pm after reports of a number of assaults.
Police quickly attended. A 36-year-old Broadmeadows man was arrested near the Moonee Ponds train station.
Four people, two males and two females ranging in age from their 30s to 80s, were taken to hospital for treatment of what police believe to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The alleged offender has been charged with 29 offences including intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, common law assault, assault with a weapon, armed robbery and other offences.
He is being held in custody overnight and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
“At this stage, the incident appears to have been random in nature and not terror-related,” a Victoria Police media release stated.
