A 55-year-old off-duty male detective was yesterday detected allegedly drink driving at Melbourne Airport at about 3.45pm

The senior constable from the northwest metro region was intercepted at an alcohol and drug testing site.

He tested positive to a preliminary breath test before undergoing an evidentiary test, where he returned an alleged reading of .107% BAC.

The officer’s vehicle has been impounded with towing costs of $896 and is expected to be summonsed to court for drink driving-related offences.

If found guilty, the officer – when relicensed – will be required by Victorian law to only operate vehicles fitted with an interlock device for at least six months. It is unclear how the officer could continue to be an available police officer.

Victoria Police didn’t confirm if the officer will be restricted to ‘desk’ or ‘watchhouse’ duties.
