ESSENDON, VIC. — Fawkner Highway Patrol officers patrolling as part of Operation Regal nabbed a high-range drink driver, following a collision in Essendon early Sunday morning.

Police responded to reports of a nose-to-tail collision between a sedan and a taxi at the intersection of Mount Alexander Road and Lincoln Road just after 12.30am.

The impact of the offending sedan pushed the taxi through a roundabout, then into a sign, which caused a pole to fall onto and smash a glass tram stop.

Both drivers underwent mandatory alcohol and drug testing.

A 48-year-old Keilor Park man of the offending sedan tested positive to alcohol with an EBT reading of 0.280 per cent BAC, which is five times over the legal alcohol limit, and was served an immediate loss of licence for 12 months.
