MOUNT WAVERLEY, VIC. — Three people were apprehended by members of the public last night after allegedly trying to flee the scene of a crash involving a stolen car.
Police will allege the stolen Holden Commodore station wagon was travelling at high speeds along the Monash Freeway when it crashed into the rear of a Lexus shortly after 8pm.
The Commodore crossed four lanes of traffic before crashing into a safety barrier, sustaining extensive damage.
The three occupants – a 20-year-old Pakenham man, a 19-year-old Beaconsfield woman and a 17-year-old girl from the Casey area – allegedly attempted to leave the scene; however were detained by witnesses until police arrived.
The male driver remains in hospital under police guard after sustaining serious injuries.
The two females were also taken to hospital; however, they were released and will be interviewed at a later date.
The 22-year-old Brighton woman driving the Lexus was treated at the scene for shock.
