At 3.45am, firefighters responded to an incident on Floribunda Road, Tarneit, after callers to triple-zero (000) reported a house fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters arrived on scene to find the single-storey brick house on fire and threatening nearby homes.
The fire had severely damaged the house, with the main roof and a wall collapsing. The local council Building Surveyor will attend this morning.
Commander Ferguson has praised the efforts of thirty firefighters on scene, who proactively ensured that minimal damage occurred to neighbouring properties.
The fire took 50 minutes to bring under control.
The fire has been deemed suspicious.
Firefighters will remain on scene to continue extinguishing hot spots and mopping up whilst police will commence an investigation.
