MELBOURNE, VIC. — A teenage boy has been arrested after a pedestrian was struck in Melbourne’s CBD after the teenage boy was allegedly driving a stolen Ford Escape east along tram lines on Flinders Street when he struck the pedestrian standing at the intersection of Elizabeth Street at about 10.45am.

The boy performed a U-turn outside Flinders Street Station before continuing along Flinders Lane, where he is believed to have struck several unoccupied parked cars.

The 16-year-old from the Greater Dandenong area was later arrested without incident on Beaconsfield Parade, Albert Park.

He will be interviewed by police.

The chaos unfolded as thousands of people were running in the Melbourne Marathon on a route that passed by Flinders Street Station at the Swanston Street end.

A spokesperson from Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were called to the incident just before 11am and one person was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The victim, a woman from Southbank, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another witness said he saw people jumping out of the way to avoid the driver. 

“[The driver] had no regard for anyone when he was driving, absolutely not, completely erratic, very reckless.”

The vehicle is alleged to have been stolen from a business premises on Luster Circuit, Cranbourne South around 2am on Sunday, October 11.

Police have confirmed this is not an act of terrorism, nor was it a targeted attack.
