MELBOURNE, VIC. — Melbourne Highway Patrol officers have charged a teenager after a vehicle was allegedly driven erratically and struck a pedestrian in Melbourne’s CBD yesterday.

Police will allege that a stolen Ford Escape was driven east along tram tracks on Flinders Street when it struck a 57-year-old Southbank woman who was standing at the intersection with Elizabeth Street, about 10.45am.

The woman was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver is then alleged to have performed a U-turn outside Flinders Street Station, where police and Protective Services Officers patrolling the area drew their firearms.

The vehicle continued along Flinders Lane where it struck several unoccupied parked cars.

Police later arrested the 16-year-old from the Greater Dandenong area without incident on Beaconsfield Parade in Albert Park.

He has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving in a manner dangerous, driving at a speed dangerous, unlicensed driving, careless driving, failing to have proper control of a vehicle, failing to render assistance, theft of a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods.

He was remanded to appear at a children’s court today.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from a business on Luster Circuit, Cranbourne South about 2am yesterday.

Police have confirmed this is not an act of terrorism or a targeted attack.
