Two men were arrested after evading police in two separate incidents in Melbourne’s east early this morning after a white Holden Commodore was allegedly seen driving erratically and speeding inbound on the Monash Freeway in Mulgrave just before 3am.

With assistance from Air Wing, police followed the car to the Wellington Road exit and through the Clayton and Mount Waverley areas as stop sticks were deployed with the vehicle coming to a stop at the corner of Webster Street and Warrigal Road in Camberwell.

While the 23-year-old male Commodore driver from Rawson was being arrested around 3.15am a grey Mazda CX5 with no headlights on, sped past the scene.

Air Wing followed the Mazda through the Mount Waverley and Glen Waverley areas.

Stop sticks were again deployed and the Mazda travelled to Stephenson Road before the driver dumped the vehicle on Dennyse Court, Mount Waverley and fled the scene.

A 38-year-old Ashburton man was arrested nearby on Stephenson Road just before 4am and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and other traffic-related offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

The 23-year-old Commodore driver has been bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 28 September.
