Murrindindi Shire Council have extended lease arrangements for the Kinglake Rebuilding and Advisory Centre (RAC) for another year.
Kinglake Ward Councillor Leigh Dunscombe said tenants currently using the RAC would be offered a lease extension to June 30, 2019.
“In the meantime Council will continue to support the community’s efforts to develop a viable community management model for the RAC into the future,” Cr Dunscombe said.
“In October last year a community-led public meeting was held in Kinglake to identify options for future community use of the RAC.
“During this meeting a community working group was formed to assess the feasibility of the ideas raised. We recognise there really hasn’t been enough time for the group to develop a sustainable community management model for council to consider.”
Cr Dunscombe said Parks Victoria had subsequently advised council it is looking at alternative office accommodation for beyond 2019.
“The three small businesses currently also in the RAC are also keen to extend their leases for another 12 months, so this is a positive outcome all round,” he said.
“Council looks forward to working with the Kinglake Community over the next 12 months to ensure we have a sustainable community management model for the RAC to ensure everyone can make the most of this facility.”
