On Saturday, March 3 Holy Trinity’s Third XI completed their outright defeat of Kinglake’s First XI in the North Metro Cricket Association’s E Grade ‘Sault Shield’ as the Lakers followed on.
The match is Kinglake’s last cricket match for summer 2017-18 with Kinglake not winning a match all season, only securing a draw and three premiership points.
Holy Trinity made 154 runs in the first innings from Kinglake’s 56 overs with the Lakers’ James Gibbs dismissing opening batsmen Darren Wright for 37. Gibbs took four wickets in total, including a catch off the bowling of Jason Gaffee.
Wright was Holy Trinity’s highest run scorer and Jason Gaffee took two catches for a total of three wickets on day one.
After being 1/22 at stumps on day one Kinglake were all out for 49 runs from 34.3 overs on day two before following on to make 105 runs from 26 overs before sending Holy Trinity’s opening batsman Henry Vear in to face one ball and make four runs and conclude both clubs’ seasons.
Kinglake finish the season in eighth place (last) on the ladder with one draw from 14 matches having lost 157 wickets for 1331 runs, collecting just three (3) points for percentage of 0.2094%.
The Kinglake District Club’s annual Presentation Night is on Saturday, March 24 from 5:30pm at the Kinglake Memorial Oval.
North Brunswick/Rosebank 4th XI, Preston Baseballers 3rd XI, Prestoin Druids 2nd XI and Strathewen 2nd XI finished in the top four and play in next weekends semi-finals.
The winner of each semi-final then play in the grand final for the Sault Shield.
