River Pigs shine in fifth annual Pride Cup

Yarra Glen hosted Alexandra in the fifth annual Pride Cup hoping to stay undefeated in their annual event.

The River Pigs came out guns blazing in the first quarter kicking 9.4 to Alexandra’s one behind as Yarra Glen made an amazing start to their Pride Cup defence.

The second quarter was an in and under tough 30 minutes of footy with neither side finding space, which on Yarra Glen’s ground is hard to believe. There were just seven scoring shots for the quarter and a goal which Alexandra snagged, outscoring Yarra Glen in the quarter.

Yarra Glen upped the ante again in the third quarter, kicking six goals to Alexandra’s three extending their lead to 71 points at the final break.

The last quarter was again tight but Yarra Glen kicked two goals while Alexandra could only manage two behinds.

Yarra Glen was lucky that two (first and third) quarters of football won them the game. They won’t get that luxury again.
