NILLUMBIK SHIRE, VIC. — Nillumbik Council’s longest-running event, the Nillumbik Pet Expo, returns in October.
Highlights include displays and demonstrations; barking dog advice; nutrition and grooming tips; obedience training, and cat enrichment ideas.
Children are well catered for with face painting, entertainment, reptile education (snake safety), plus pony rides. Animal rescue groups will also be on-site so you might meet a new family member on the day!
Bring your pets on leads along to the expo to socialise and get plenty of pats. A dog agility area will provide an outlet for energetic pups.
Expect a wide range of food vendors and retail stalls, and of course our popular competitions return – with some new categories this year. Your pet can be entered to win:
- Best trick
- Best dressed
- Pet/owner lookalike
- Most unique pet and
- Crowd favourite.
Some great prizes will be on offer for the winners.
Mayor Naomi Joiner said the expo is ideal for both cat and dog owners.
“We now have 24/7 cat confinement in Nillumbik, and if you’re seeking advice on creating a catio, using a cat carrier or harness, or anything else related to the transition, you can chat with our friendly Community Safety team at the expo,” Cr Joiner said.
Ellis Ward Councillor Peter Perkins said the Nillumbik Pet Expo has been a much-loved community event for 28 years.
“The expo has information about responsible pet ownership to help educate residents about their obligations as pet owners. It’s also packed with activities for kids and is a great local day out for people across the Shire,” Cr Perkins said.
The Nillumbik Pet Expo will be held at Marngrook Oval in Diamond Creek from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 11.
