LALOR, VIC. — Meet the artists and help shape Lively Lalor at a free community pop-up on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Lalor’s laneways are about to get a whole lot more colourful, with new murals, light projections and public art set to transform the heart of the Lalor Shopping Centre precinct.  And locals are invited to be part of it.

The City of Whittlesea’s Lively Lalor Laneways project will bring art and colour into the precinct, celebrating the people, cultures and stories that make Lalor special, while creating more inviting spaces to visit, explore and shop.

“Lalor is one of Melbourne’s most culturally diverse communities and this project is about celebrating the people, cultures and stories that make it such a special place,” Whittlesea Mayor, Cr Lawrie Cox said.

The community can get involved at a free pop-up at Peter Lalor Walk on Saturday, October 24, from 10am to 1pm.

Come along to meet the mural artists, get creative and share what you love about Lalor. The stories and ideas collected will help inspire the artworks that will transform the laneways.

Across 2026 and 2027, Lively Lalor Laneways will bring large-scale murals, light projections and new artworks for the permanent lightbox gallery in Peter Lalor Walk.

Five mural artists have been selected to create works inspired by Lalor’s diverse community and local businesses: Dan Wenn and Helaine Geor from 90 Degrees Art, Marco Pennacchia, Jodie Pritchard from Pritch Studios and Jaycob Campbell from Gonketa.

“We’re bringing more colour, creativity and life to the heart of Lalor, creating spaces where people want to spend time while supporting the local traders who make the precinct unique,” Cr Lawrie Cox said.

Artist in Residence Carla Gottgens will work with local schools, U3A and community groups to inspire three new lightbox artworks.

Local artists Bushra Hasan, Castein Chimanya, Kiarna Atkinson and Rosemary Lugg will also create artworks that will be transformed into light projections across the laneways.

Installation is expected to begin in December 2026, with a community celebration planned for February 2027.

“I encourage everyone to come along on October 24, meet the artists and tell us what you love about Lalor. It’s a great opportunity to help inspire the artworks that will become part of the community,”  Cr Lawrie Cox said.
