Buses replace trains on South Morang line this weekend

AMENDED 9:50AM 29/6: Buses replace trains between Clifton Hill and South Morang this weekend from 7.45pm Friday, June 29 (tomorrow) until last train Sunday, July 1 as engineers inspect the newly constructed tracks in preparation for the first test train to Mernda.

Journey times over the weekend may increase by 45 minutes.

If all goes well during this weekend’s rail occupation, the test train will run in early July.

Engineers will inspect the tracks, signals and infrastructure over the weekend in preparation for the first ‘test train’ in July. Whether the first ‘test train’ will be electric, and test the electrical system too, or a diesel locomotive hasn’t been confirmed.

The ‘test train’ will be the first to Mernda since 1959.
