Detectives investigate Mernda grass fire

Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating Wednesday’s (20 February) grass fire in Mernda.

The fire is now considered to be suspicious or started by illegal motorcycle riding whereby a heated exhaust ignited the fire before encroaching on residential paddocks on the western side of Everard Road at about 4.30pm.

The exact cause of the fire is still being determined.

Police wish to speak with three people who were seen riding dirt bikes in the area prior to the fire.

Police released images of three people (above) they believe can assist with enquiries.
