DisAbility day at Flowerdale

On Wednesday 5 December, students from Flowerdale Primary School celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

Mayor Sandice McAulay said IDPwD is all about increasing the understanding and acceptance of people with disability and increasing public awareness of the issues people with disabilities face.

“This was the fourth year Council’s Access and Inclusion Committee celebrated IDPwD in partnership with Nexus Primary Health,” McAulay said.

“This year the theme was about empowering people with a disability and supporting inclusiveness and equity.

“More than 20 students took part in activities, like wheelchair basketball and blindfold exercises, to help them experience what it may be like to live with a mobility issue or vision impairment.

“Students also heard from Lincoln Budge about some of his sporting achievements and his experience of living with a disability.

“Council would like to thank the Flowerdale Primary School staff and students for being such enthusiastic participants in International Day of People with Disability – what a fantastic day it was!” McAulay said.
