Celebrations at the biggest play date of 2018

Nillumbik Council is thrilled to be opening the brand new Eltham North Adventure Playground on 19 December, just in time for the long school holidays.

Local children have been eagerly waiting for this day, watching the playground take shape over the last few months.

Nillumbik Mayor, Karen Egan is looking forward to cutting the ribbon at this milestone event.

“The people of Nillumbik were devastated when the original playground was destroyed in December last year. We have worked closely with the community to rebuild this important Eltham landmark.” Egan said.

“This is a world class playground, which caters to children of all ages and abilities. The new playground consists of a unique wooden structure with tunnels, hidey holes and slides. Many themes from the previous designs are threaded through this structure, there is even a tractor in the centre. In the surrounding playspace there are swing sets, cubby houses and a flying fox.”

Edendale Ward Councillor John Dumaresq is delighted the new playground is accessible for children of all abilities.

“Council has worked closely with the playground designers to ensure the new playground, including the cubby houses and surrounding paths are accessible to everyone, by including ramps and widening door-ways. The liberty swing has been relocated so it is incorporated into the playspace, not standing alone.” Cr Dumaresq said.

“Children will love exploring the new playground during the long school holidays and for many years to come.”

Further enhancements to the playspace will continue in 2019, including additional landscaping projects. There will be opportunities for the community to get involved in activities in 2019.

Opening event details:
Wednesday 19 December, 4pm at the Eltham North Adventure Playground. Parking is available on site or in nearby Dansey’s Paddock.
