Yea.
THE Murrindindi Business Awards were held last night (July 25) at Yea Town Hall by Murrindindi Inc with support from Murrindindi Shire Council and the State Government with local businesses rewarded for their innovation, hard work and dedication.
The Kinglake Pub won for Excellence in Customer Service with William Verhagen of Integrity Real Estate winning the Young Business Person of the Year award.
“I’m really excited about this, it [winning] doesn’t just benefit me but the whole community as the Kinglake Ranges is transformed and the community benefits.”
“We’ll see positive changes from this. Improvements in infrastructure whilst Kinglake remains a rural community with easy access to Melbourne,” said William.
Kinglake Pub publican Robin Burns stated, “We’re just here to please and run our business successfully.”
“The awards aren’t a competition between businesses and we don’t want it [to be] one.”
“We’re just doing our job and running the pub the best we can…”
Other winners included Roaming Poppy for Excellence in Innovation.
Roaming Poppy is based in Alexandra and operated by Lucy Mertens and her fiancée Steve Collins. They’ve taken the concept of the ‘donut van’ or roadside stall and turned it into a portable coffee shop, bar and food van.
“[We’re] very impressed and it’s great to be a winner among other local businesses.”

Murrindindi’s business awards are designed to acknowledge local businesses which are delivering exceptional products and services to the local community whilst identifying examples of best practice and industry role models for aspiring business people in the district to follow.
This is the first year since 2008 the awards have been held.
