
HEIDELBERG, VIC. — An alleged thief attempted to escape a police guard at the Austin Hospital by climbing through the ceiling.
Police charged and remanded a 21-year-old Carrum Downs man after an alleged theft in Preston.
He was taken to the Austin Hospital yesterday after reporting a medical episode.
The Carrum Downs man then attempted to escape police custody at the hospital by climbing through a false ceiling at about 10:30pm.
Police negotiated with the man for about three hours before he climbed down and was taken back into custody.
In addition to the theft charges, police also charged him with escaping custody and criminal damage.
He was remanded in custody and will face Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court after 10am today.
