SPOTSWOOD, VIC. — Detectives from the Illicit Firearms Squad have charged a 44-year-old Spotswood man as part of an investigation into firearm and drug trafficking.
Police, including members of the Special Operations Group (SOG), attended his property on Hudsons Road about 8.50am Friday to execute a warrant as part of the investigation.
The 44-year-old Spotswood man was uncooperative with police and armed with a firearm.
Police negotiated with the man and cordoned off the area for about 1.5 hours before he came out of the property at 10.20am.
He was then arrested and interviewed by police.
A 36-year-old Spotswood woman was also interviewed and has since been released pending further enquiries.
The man was subsequently charged with several offences, including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, using a firearm in contravention of a firearms prohibition order, being a prohibited person using a firearm, discharging a firearm at premises, dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime and several drug possession offences.
He faces the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in an out-of-sessions hearing today, Saturday, June 6.
Police also seized a firearm, mobile phones, laptops, watches, OC spray and drugs including methylamphetamine and testosterone following a search of the Spotswood property.
Friday’s arrest follows an investigation by the Illicit Firearms Squad into the trafficking of illicit firearms and drugs.
On Sunday, May 31, detectives located a vehicle in Williamstown and seized 13kg of methylamphetamine found inside the car.
No one was in the vehicle at the time of the search.
An investigation remains ongoing.
