ST KILDA, VIC. — Police are investigating an assault in St Kilda after emergency services responded to reports that a man was found unconscious by a passerby on St Kilda Road about 12am on Saturday, May 2.

The 44-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries that required stitches, as well as a broken collarbone.

“This was a vicious and completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply walking home after a night out,” Senior Constable Daniel Vandebroek said.

It is understood that an unknown offender grabbed the victim from behind, as he was walking into an apartment foyer, before putting him in a headlock and throwing him to the ground.
