RIPPONLEA, VIC. — Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after two stolen cars rammed a police vehicle on Bell Street, Ripponlea, at about 10.20am yesterday.
At first, police sighted a stolen black Toyota RAV4 wagon. As they moved to intercept it, a black Toyota Kluger, with no registration plates, exited the rear of a property and collided with the rear of the unmarked police vehicle.
The stolen RAV4 rammed the side of the police vehicle before both cars fled in convoy southbound on Bell Street.
No officers were injured during the collision.
Police, with the assistance of Air Wing, were able to track the RAV4 through Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs, along the Monash Freeway, Calder Freeway and into Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
The car pulled into a shopping centre underground carpark on Macauley Road in North Melbourne, where it was located abandoned just after midday.
An extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted but the driver was unable to be located.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Police are urging anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the drivers to come forward.
The Toyota RAV4 was stolen from Glen Huntly Road in Elsternwick on September 14.
The Prado remains outstanding and was stolen from Nicholson Street in Fitzroy on September 13.
