Woman charged & 3D printed firearms seized

FOOTSCRAY, VIC. — Detectives from the Illicit Firearms Squad charged a woman as part of an investigation into alleged firearms manufacturing and trafficking in Footscray.

A warrant was executed at a residential property on Napier Street with assistance from VIPER Taskforce on Friday, May 29, just after 9am.

During the search, around 30 exhibits were seized by detectives, including:

    • various 22-calibre ammunition and 12-gauge shotgun ammunition;
    • 3D printed firearm parts;
    • various nuts/bolts/springs/fixings;
    • 3D printer and spools of 3D printer filament;
    • an imitation firearm; and
    • Various pyrotechnics/fireworks/flares and firecrackers.

A 37-year-old woman was charged with an array of firearm offences, including possessing parts and equipment for the manufacture of firearms, possessing an imitation firearm, possessing ammunition and possessing explosives.

She was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 23.

A 44-year-old man was released pending further enquiries into the incident.

The Bomb Response Unit also attended to conduct safety checks at the premises.

An investigation remains ongoing.
