Murrindindi adopts new Health & Wellbeing Plan

Murrindindi Shire Council has adopted its plan to help ensure our community is active, healthy and connected.

Mayor Charlie Bisset said the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021 strengthens the focus on health and well-being across the Shire and reflects the importance of this for communities across the Shire.

With the adoption of the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021, Council will actively promote and work towards strengthening healthy and active communities within a partnership approach.

Cr Bisset said the Plan was truly a community plan.

“This Plan has been created after extensive consultation and engagement with the community.  I’d like to thank the community, sport and recreation groups and our health sector partner agencies for their support and feedback through this process.

“We held two workshops with partner agencies which really helped us hone in on what was important to achieve over the next four years.  And we met with over 80 representatives of community sport and creation clubs and groups in four different sessions”, said Cr Bisset.

“The feedback we received through these meetings was invaluable.  One of the key takeaways for us was the importance of ensuring that the Council Plan and the Health and Wellbeing Plan complement one another so there is clarity about what we are trying to achieve and so that we are focussing our efforts in the most efficient way possible.”

“Importantly, this Plan also incorporates community feedback from Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ community engagement process which informed the creation of new Council Plan 2017-2021.

“During that process, we received a huge amount of feedback from over 1600 community members about how we can work to improve our community’s health and wellbeing.  That feedback emphasised the importance of improving connections within the community and making services and facilities easier to access – all of which contributes to the happy and healthy enjoyment of our lives.

“We have incorporated that feedback into our new Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan which will guide our work in this area for the next four years.

“The key message of the Plan is that we need to get and stay active and get involved  to ensure good health and long term well-being.   As a Council, we will work to make that easier for the community to do,” added Cr Bisset.

If you would like to download a copy of the Plan (including a low-resolution version), it will be available on Council’s website from 1 December at www.murrindindi.vic.gov.au.    Copies of the Plan are also available at Council offices in Alexandra, Kinglake and Yea.
