Webb bids farewell to shire

First for Council News – Why wait ’till Wednesday?
Alexandra.

Sharon Webb, Murrindindi Shire’s Development Services Administration Officer finished working for the shire on Friday, September 1 after 36 years’ service.

Webb first started at Alexandra Shire Council in May 1981 remembering days of ‘smoke-filled rooms and cigarettes in half-filled ashtrays at the desks beside the typewriters.’

Webb holds the record of the second-longest serving member of council staff.

Starting as a ‘typiste’ using an electronic typewriter she has seen council’s technology change over the years.

“One of the highlights of that period was going to buy our first computers with our Assistant Shire Secretary in the mid-late 1980s. Until then electric typewriters were … pretty special,” she said.

Shire CEO Margaret Abbey praised Webb for her contributions ‘across the organisation over the years,’ singling out her most recent role as part of the building team.

“Sharon’s loyalty to her team and the community is outstanding and she will be greatly missed,” Abbey said.

“We thank her for her efforts and achievements over the last 36 years and wish her all the very best for the future.”
