Whittlesea police officer helps deliver baby roadside in Doreen

Whittlesea Police Station First Constable Alana Olivieri is in the business of saving lives, not bringing new lives into the world.

But all that changed when she was on her way to work on Saturday and noticed a car abruptly pull over on Yan Yean Road in Doreen about 5.30pm.

First Constable Olivieri’s inquisitive nature and sense of duty kicked in and she pulled over to investigate what was happening.

After discovering a frantic husband and expectant mum in the backseat in the final stages of labour, it quickly became apparent they needed some assistance.

First Constable Olivieri got straight to work, assisting the couple while on the phone to 000 who provided some much needed direction.

The end result was the delivery of a healthy baby boy along with a couple of grateful, happy first-time parents Kyle and Melissa Sherwood.

Baby Charles Arthur Sherwood is now at home with his proud new parents.
