All Australians should consider this.
How is it that the Brazilian Government, arguably a third world country, was prepared to take on two large public companies BHP and Vale on behalf of it citizens with a claim for damages resulting from the Brazilian Mine Disaster and obtain a settlement for the actual costs of damage incurred which resulted in Brazilian citizens receiving full compensation for their losses?
The Australian Government offered no assistance to February 2009 Black Saturday bushfire survivors they were left with the only means to compensation, a class action run by a ‘lawyer without funding.’
As a result the class action settled for approximately $700 Million, whereas the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission valued the damage caused by the bushfires at in excess of $4.5 Billion (that is only 15.5% of actual damage costs was received.)
Obviously Black Saturday survivors received only a small percentage of their actual losses which has placed many under extreme financial hardship which has continued for the past 10 years and unfortunately continues.
